French Court Grants Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Temporary Travel Relief to Dubai

Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram, has secured approval from a French court to travel to Dubai for two weeks starting July 10. This marks the second instance of temporary reprieve from judicial supervision since his arrest in August 2024. Durov remains under strict oversight, including twice-weekly police check-ins and a €5 million bail.

French authorities initially denied Durov's travel request in May for the Oslo Freedom Forum. The arrest stems from an investigation into Telegram's alleged facilitation of criminal activity, with critics citing its encryption features, disposable phone numbers, and crypto payment options as enablers of illicit behavior.

Since Durov's arrest, Telegram has adjusted its content moderation policies, including increased data sharing with authorities. The platform's native token, TON, was not mentioned in the court proceedings but remains a focal point for crypto investors watching regulatory developments.
